ABOUT MICHAELA BURNS INTERIORS

Michaela Burns Interiors is a Toronto-based, full-service interior design studio specializing in bespoke, high-end residential projects. Michaela blends timeless style with practical, livable solutions, creating sophisticated, beautifully layered interiors that feel as good as they look.

With a meticulous approach to detail, the studio manages every phase of the design process—collaborating with top trades and artisans to deliver exceptional quality and craftsmanship. Michaela’s work reflects a refined aesthetic, balancing elegance and comfort to create spaces that are both luxurious and deeply personal.

Whether it’s a full-scale renovation or refining the details of a single room, the goal is simple: to help every client fall in love with their home.


The starting point

When Michaela and I first connected in September 2022, she was still operating under Mint Decor, the business she had started part-time more than a decade earlier. Over the years, Michaela’s design business had grown significantly and evolved far beyond its original scope. While Mint Decor served her well during the early stages, Michaela felt it no longer reflected where her business was—or where she wanted it to go.

She was ready for a rebrand that represented the maturity and sophistication of her design services today.

the goal

The primary goal of this project was to shift from a playful and youthful aesthetic to something more elegant, clean, and sophisticated—a brand that reflected the growth and evolution of Michaela’s design business.

I also aimed to do a comprehensive review of her existing brand assets, including her social media presence and website, to ensure everything felt cohesive and aligned with her new direction. Michaela had a clear goal of getting her work published, and I wanted to create an elevated brand identity that positioned her as a leader in the design space while supporting her long-term aspirations.

the Rebrand

The rebrand process was all about elevating Michaela’s business to reflect its growth and maturity. The original Mint Decor branding felt playful and youthful, while Michaela Burns Interiors needed to convey elegance and sophistication. Since we were rebranding under Michaela’s name, it was important that the logo and wordmark made her name the focal point, with a clean, creative design that reflected her unique style.

To bring the brand vision to life, I collaborated with Kerri and Jill at Lume Creative on the logo design, ensuring it felt modern yet timeless. We selected elegant serif fonts for headers and paired them with a lightweight sans serif font for body text to maintain a balance of sophistication and readability. The brand colours were carefully chosen to feel neutral and calming, allowing Michaela’s design work to remain the star.

Beyond design, I also supported Michaela with the logistics of her rebrand, including transferring to her new domain, setting up and transitioning her email addresses and managing the technical elements that come with renaming a business.

Finally, to introduce Michaela Burns Interiors to the world with impact, I created a splashy launch video that showcased the new brand in an exciting and engaging way.

the website

The goal for the website was to elevate the online presence of Michaela Burns Interiors, ensuring it reflected the high quality and sophistication of Michaela’s work. I focused on creating a clean, modern design that aligned with her new branding while improving navigation and user experience to make the site easy to explore.

I put a strong emphasis on project photography, allowing her stunning interior design work to take centre stage. To further establish credibility, I created dedicated sections for awards and media features, positioning Michaela as a respected expert in her field. The result is a visually impactful site that is both functional and beautiful, helping potential clients quickly understand the scope and quality of her work while inviting them to connect with her.

Instagram

Since starting her business, Michaela has created and sustained a high level of engagement on Instagram, and my goal was to sustain and build on that while evolving her Instagram into a powerful visual portfolio. I focused on highlighting her work in a cohesive, high-end grid, showcasing her expertise while providing social proof to prospective clients and publishers.

My strategy combined high-quality static posts with high-value Reels, creating a polished and engaging feed that reflects her elevated brand and reinforces her positioning in the design industry.

The following are some of the results over the past year:

  • New Followers: 784

  • Link Clicks: 243 (+956.5%)

  • Reach: 64.7K (+20.4%)

  • Interactions: 8K (+100%)

  • Engagement Rate: 12.5% (roughly 215% higher than industry average)

This thoughtful approach transformed Michaela’s Instagram into more than a social media platform—it’s now a strategic tool for growing her business, supporting her goal of attracting new clients and getting published.

Blog & Newsletter

In March, 2024, I launched a monthly blog series for Michaela Burns Interiors to share valuable design insights and behind-the-scenes project highlights. The blog helps position Michaela as a trusted expert while supporting SEO growth and giving her audience a deeper connection beyond social media.

Each month, we collaborate on topics, with Michaela providing her expertise and me creating a polished final post, complete with curated imagery. The result is a cohesive content strategy that expands her reach and reinforces her authority in the design space.

Together. we kicked off Michaela Burns Interiors' monthly newsletter, Interior Insights, in March 2024 with the goal of nurturing existing contacts and followers. The newsletter offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at projects, sneak peeks, and design tips to keep readers engaged and connected to Michaela’s work.

With a consistently high open rate averaging 67% (well above the industry average of 30%) and a strong click rate averaging 12%, the newsletter has proven to be an effective tool for maintaining relationships, sharing valuable content, and driving traffic back to Michaela’s website. By handling the framework and drafting each edition, I can ensure the process remains efficient, while keeping the content on-brand and engaging.

the feedback

I’ve worked with Elizabeth for over three years, starting with my initial rebrand launch. What began as a branding project has evolved into an ongoing strategic partnership, with Elizabeth helping me strengthen my brand through consistent social media campaigns, newsletters, and blogs.
